Mathias Kerremans Ir. Architect / founder
Mathias is the founder of SMAK Architects. He has developed his expertise and design skills in the offices of Richard Rogers Partnership, VK group, Foster and Partners and B2Ai.
John Flippo Ir. Architect
John is an experienced architect with a career spanning over 25-years career in Switzerland, The Netherlands and Belgium. He spent a fair part of his career at Charles Vandenhove where he developed his passion for detail and execution of projects. John worked closely together with Mathias Kerremans since 2014 at B2Ai as Studio Director. At the beginning of 2020 he took on the role of head of the execution team at SMAK Architects.
Perrine Compain Architect
Perrine obtained her masters degree from Ecole d’Architecture de Bordeaux in 2009 where she developed her creative problem solving skills. In the span of 11 years, she has worked in different offices across France and Belgium. She began her career in France working at Laurent Duplantier Architecte, Baggio Piechaud Architects and Joly et Loiret Architectes. For 6 years, Perrine worked at Atelier d’Architecture de Genval in Brussels-Wallonia before taking the position as a chef de projet at B2Ai Brussels for 3 years. In early 2020, she became the head of design of SMAK Architects.
Simo Staessens Architect
Simo obtained his master’s degree from the University of Antwerp in 2020 with great distinction. He has strong fascination in corresponding architectural concept with its context and is mostly interested in projects with complex and varied programs.
Next to architecture, Simo is a movie and trivia fanatic.
Thomas Wouters
Architect
Thomas earned his master's degree as an architect from the University of Antwerp in 2020. With a keen eye for detailling and a strong interest for construction he pursues a contextual sensitive architecture. He holds a profound interest in designing resilient and adaptable buildings which function to serve different uses instead of serving a single function. As of 2023, Thomas was welcomed into the SMAK team.
Lykka Jade Agamata
Architect
Lykka Jade achieved her master's degree in Architecture at the University of Antwerp. Her master thesis was about urbanizing a village in Erpe-Mere. For her it was a chance to explore ways to enhance a village center and its qualities, as a reaction to the growing trend of ribbon development in Belgian towns. In november 2023 she joined the team of SMAK.
Besides architecture, she has a great passion for traveling, cooking and tasting different cuisines.
Inês Lourenço
Architect
Inês Lourenço is portuguese and studied at Universidade de Coimbra, where she attained her master degree in 2011. After following an internship at João Mendes Ribeiro, she took part of several international competitions at Mecanoo in The Netherlands. Since 2013 Inês has been working in Belgium in many different types of projects at B-architecten, POLO architects and SMAK Architects from 2024.
Inês is passionate about art and has a degree in illustration design at Academie Berchem.
Marek Zahradnik Architect
Marek graduated with a masters degree in sustainable architecture from the KU Leuven Sint-Lucas Ghent in 2014. He then worked for Belgian architectural offices such as Space-lab.be, 51N4E, PLAN +, Polack architects and SMAK architects. He specializes in 3D modeling with a vast knowledge of computer programming. Marek promotes sustainable means of transport and in his free time he travels around Europe on his bicycle.
